What’s old: this hi-tech software delivery system:

Recycled as….. a coaster. Waste not, want not.

Does anyone even remember AOL? Seems like they are still around. They may just be too trivial to be crushed by either Microsoft or Google – you certainly don’t hear much about them anymore.

The End of An Era.

Specifically, the era of my old “Gateway 2000” P5-75. It was still technically “running” , but hadn’t been used in years. Originally came with Windows 3.1, upgraded later to Windows 95 & 98. Hey! You can surf the web on the 14.4k modem! 720 meg hard drive!

However, in February 1995, there wasn’t much web to surf. Now, you can barely do anything on this box. So, it’s time to go.

Some thoughts: this cost about $2500 in 1995. For $2500 today, I could get a computer that could fly the space shuttle and probably mow my yard at the same time. It’s also interesting that my HP 12c calculator, obtained at the end of 1987, still runs perfectly, and the model is still in production and selling at a pretty respectable price for a design that’s over 25 years old., completely unlike any PC from that era. No cycle of endless operating system upgrades, worries about spyware, viruses, or crummy software releases. All the 12c is crunch the numbers, and it does it very, very well.
